Nearly 2 *YEARS* since the last blog post here... that should go testament to proving my inability to be consistent as the title suggests eh? I guess perhaps I just didn't really have anything to say all this time but nah, I'd go more with my inability to be consistent!
I've been making videos on YouTube for almost 12 years, over 7 of those years on a full-time basis... so to be fair to myself, this is by far the most consistent I've ever been at sticking to a job or passion (in this case, BOTH!) - My inconsistency with making videos on YouTube seems to come from me going through huge phases. For example, I'll go through a phase of being SUPER consistent (take September-October 2022 when I uploaded DAILY all during then!) then I'll either totally burn out or something IRL comes along that disrupts my flow or both. Either way, it starts to become really difficult to keep up with making videos so that super consistent phase is followed by an inactive phase where I'm trying to deal with burn out, be it feeling unmotivated, uninspired or just flat out not feeling happy/energetic enough or any combination of those.
Right now of course, I have not just 1 channel (like most YouTubers deal with), not even 2 channels (which I know a few YouTubers do deal with) but *THREE* channels that I upload to. Yes, the argument could, of course, be made that I'm spreading myself super thin on YouTube but after trying multiple times to have multiple games work on one channel, it just doesn't work out so creating these other channels works out fairly nicely. I mainly play Minecraft, Terraria and ARK anyway so to have a channel for each of those with each their own communities is nice. Having 3 games to play and make videos on YouTube means less chance of burning out of one of those games.
My goal is very simple - Be consistent with making videos for all 3 channels, the PythonGB one, the Pythonator one and the PythonPlays one. This is why, behind the scenes as of late, I've been planning some content schedule ideas that HOPEFULLY, I'll be able to stick to. As I've mentioned in a previous post, the importance of making time for yourself (having time off) cannot be overstated enough. It's essential to having good mental health and giving you a chance to recharge your batteries and enjoy things outside of your job!
I had created 3 different content schedule plans originally, each with their own pros and cons, but I chose the one that...
- Allowed a day off each week to recharge my batteries
- Meant consistent content on ALL channels, not necessary lots of content but rather consistent content to the point where one KNOWS what content goes out on each day of the week
- Has an equal amount of videos on each channel per week so no one channel is massively focused on and therefore risks burn out
So as a result of the above criteria, this will be my loose content schedule going forward...
- Day 1: Let's Play Minecraft over on the Pythonator channel
- Day 2: ARK: The Island over on the PythonPlays channel
- Day 3: Terraria Legendary Mode over on the PythonGB channel
- Day 4: Let's Play Minecraft over on the Pythonator channel
- Day 5: ARK: The Island over on the PythonPlays channel
- Day 6: Terraria Legendary Mode over on the PythonGB channel
- Day 7: DAY OFF
I've decided that I'll have Wednesdays off each week since that's typically when my viewership dips anyway. It makes sense to me to post on the days where typically the normal/higher viewership is there rather than trying to mitigate the lower numbers by posting on those days. Play to your strengths and all that, eh? So at the time of this blog post rolling out, tomorrow (November 10th) is when this new content schedule will begin. How long will I stick to it for? I've no idea, I'm hoping, of course, a long time!
